Proposed Westerhill AI Energy Campus
About the proposal
Apatura is proposing to build the Westerhill AI Energy Campus, a large data centre with an on-site battery energy storage system (BESS), on around 31 hectares of land east of Crosshill Road, between Bishopbriggs and Lenzie. The data centre is a secure building that stores and processes digital information. The BESS is intended to store renewable energy and deliver it instantly to the grid when required. Apatura has suggested the project would bring major investment, jobs and community benefit. If approved, construction would start around 2027 with completion in 2029. The proposal requires planning permission from East Dunbartonshire Council.
